Scores of gadgets, foods and apparel that benefit a charitable organization when purchased, are now available. Here at PLAYBACK, we’re all for it.
Today I found cool news ways to give back by shopping. If you’re planning on making some purchases this weekend, here’s things to consider:
- Nordstrom stores will soon be partnering with 20 different lingerie brands to donate bra sale proceeds to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a leading organization in the fight against breast cancer.
- If you purchase a Samsung Home Theater from Best Buy, proceeds will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of America, Junior Achievement, or World Youth Alliance.
- Also, New York Yankees right fielder Nick Swisher just unveiled his “Swish-T,” which for $25 will benefit his children’s charity Swish’s Wishes. Visit NickSwisher.net to learn more about it or to purchase it.
Not looking to shop this weekend? Host a party instead. Last month, Macy’s introduced its “Coming Together” campaign, which encourages people to host parties and ask guests to donate to Feeding America instead of bringing the hostess a gift. Macy’s will match each donation until 10 million meals are provided to those less fortunate.

A couple of weeks ago PLAYBACK took part in the annual GREEN BROOKLYN…GREEN CITY 2009 fair at Brooklyn Borough Hall. Over 40 Exhibitors showcased products and offered information on everything from textile recycling (guess who? Yep. Us!) to green plumbing (yay dual-flush toilets!).
The fair was free and open to the public which proved to be exactly what change-seeking recession hit brooklynites needed. There were THOUSANDS of attendees!
PLAYBACK’s own Kim Doyle and Angela Lynch represented our brand and educated the public on PLAYBACK’s mission to save the world one t-shirt at a time. Thankfully Angela remembered a camera and was able to take a couple pictures throughout the day.
Here are a few photos from the day:

PLAYBACK is helping HeadCount put their money where their mouth is—on sustainability, anyway. Here they are at All Points West 2009, outfitted in 100% recycled PLAYBACK t-shirts. An amazing organization dedicated to voter registration and inspiring participation, HeadCount travels from festival to festival encouraging music fans to speak out on issues such as personal liberty, human rights, food and farm policy, and sustainability. A tough job, but somebody’s gotta do it. You can learn more about their cause (or volunteer for a concert in your area here.

Three of Bonnaroo’s finest “trash talkers,” volunteers from Clean Vibes, an organization dedicated to responsible waste management at outdoor events, are looking good in PLAYBACK recycled t-shirts. They tell you what goes where, eliminating the inevitable paper, plastic, and compost confusion. Thanks’s for the picture guys…do you do parties?

FRIENDS OF PLAYBACK. This is David. He’s a self-proclaimed ‘lazy filmmaker’ and a practicing harpist since the 8th grade. What does he do for the environment you ask? Well, apparently he is the only one in his dormitory to shower with the lights off. Clever my friend, clever…just don’t drop the soap. (Interesting side note. I noticed in the ‘signature’ section of our photo talent release, he wrote “Yo’ Mama.”
BE IN OUR BLOG: PLAYBACK FANS, SUBMIT YOUR PICS. Send us photo submissions (of you wearing PLAYBACK, or at least something, please) and tell us what you do to help the environment, big or small, and be in our blog. Send to info@playbackclothing.com. Void where prohibited.
